A 78-year-old man was hit by a train on Tuesday at around 5:30 p.m. in Pompey, north of Nancy.
The collision occurred near the station before the train stopped some 300 m downstream.
At the time of the shock, it appears that the victim was lying on the tracks. The driver of the engine, which was traveling between Nancy and Dieulouard, could not avoid the impact. Shocked, he was taken care of by SNCF psychological cell.

About fifteen firefighters from the Pompey, Gentilly and Vandoeuvre-lès-Nancy barracks, under the command of Lieutenant François Berteau, quickly engaged in first aid but the SMUR doctor, who arrived as reinforcements, could only note the death.
The gendarmes of Frouard as well as the assistant to the commander of the Compagnie de gendarmerie de Nancy, are on the scene to carry out the findings, with the reinforcement of the Criminal identification cell (CIC) of Nancy.
According to the first elements collected, it would be a desperate act.
At 7 p.m., rail traffic was still at a standstill, but could resume around 7.15 p.m. at least initially between Dieulouard and Nancy.
