Bernhard Escher (CDU) criticized the fact that the administration brought the issue to the local council immediately and not previously dealt with in the committee. Escher’s colleague Ulrich Lusche was also skeptical as to whether the development of personnel costs had been given sufficient consideration. Lutz replied that this contract was not set in stone for eternity, but can be terminated if the conditions no longer match and then had to be renegotiated.
VHS director Axel Rulf justified the short-term nature with which the topic landed at the municipal council with enormous time pressure. The spring semester must be planned now. But if no decision is made now, there would be no VHS offer in Steinen. Rulf described the costs as “calculated”. In addition, dynamization through state grants is guaranteed.
Günter Schlecht (SPD) showed understanding for the criticism put forward by the CDU, but appealed to the local council: “We should decide this now in the interests of the two adult education centers.” Before the local council passed the decision with a large majority, Bernhard Escher was downright poetic : “If the majority is of the opinion that this should be resolved, then I don’t want to close myself off.”
In the future, the municipality of Steinen will offset the increased use of staff at the VHS Lörrach as well as material costs such as printing the program booklet or internal billing with an annual lump sum of 44,000 euros. According to Lars Frick, the responsible department head in the Lörrach town hall, “it is guaranteed that this cooperation will be cost-neutral for the city of Lörrach”.
