Lorenzo Viotti will leave the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and De Nationale Opera after the 2024/2025 season. The 33-year-old conductor wants to spend more time on his private life, as can be read in a statement from the orchestra on Friday.
“I have decided to prioritize my personal life and development in the future in which I am the master of my own time,” said Viotti. “I look forward to following new paths in this, after a wonderful adventure as chief conductor. My relationship with the musicians, choir members, colleagues and of course the audience and the city of Amsterdam will always be there.”
The 33-year-old conductor of Swiss and French nationality made his debut with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra in 2018. In 2019 he did that at Dutch National Opera in 2019, where he succeeded Marc Albrecht. After his departure, he will return as a guest conductor at both institutions.
The orchestra says that Viotti managed to attract a new audience during his time with the company. The conductor stood at both the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra and De Nationale Opera “in front of sold-out halls in which more and more young people can be seen.”
Viotti is also popular on social media. The conductor has about 111,000 followers on Instagram. In addition to updates about his work, he also regularly shares pictures of him working out in the gym and cuddling with his cat, for example. The conductor also regularly joined talk shows, such as a woman.
