The theatrical dressmaker and costume designer Lorenzo Caprile, to whom the Almagro International Classical Theater Festival pays tribute this Saturday for his outstanding career as a costume designer for different productions, many of them linked to the National Classical Theater Company, has stated in an appearance prior to the tribute with the director of the Festival, Irene Pardo, who “increasingly confuses culture with entertainment”.

The designer, who has been very grateful for a “very undeserved” recognition, has defended the literary production of the Spanish Golden Age as “a unique heritage in the world” and has been moved to remember his connection to Almagro, where he landed for the first time time in 2006 by Don Gil of the green tights that Eduardo Vasco premiered in the town and which was also his first foray on the stage.

“I am very excited because I made my debut here, so this means closing the circle seventeen years later,” he explained, later indicating that one of the objectives that he still has to carry out is to carry out the costumes for a play in the Comedy Corral.

The designer, who will premiere the sixth season of the Masters of Sewing program on TVE in the coming months, has carried out a tour of his trade as a costume designer and has advocated recognizing the value of the textile trade, a “very physical” job that He has worked for forty years, as reported by the Festival in a press release.

“The most important suit of my career is the one that I am going to be commissioned tomorrow, although, if I had to choose one, it would be that of Don Gil, for all that it meant in my career”, the seamstress recognized, who has planted his intervention of numerous anecdotes, such as one in which the zipper of a dress by actress Loles León broke just before she had to go on stage, while she has defended, always in the event that “the director allows it” , mix different styles and aesthetics, even if they do not coincide with the canons of the time in which the piece was written.

The dressmaker, who signs the costumes for the play Abre el ojo, presented this Friday at AUREA –where today it will have a second showing–, has praised the figure of its director, Eduardo Vasco, with whom he has worked on numerous productions and with whom he has considered one of its references along with British designer Sandy Powell, winner of three Oscars for her work on the films Shakespeare in Love (John Madden, 1998), The Aviator (Martin Scorsese, 2004) and Queen Victoria (Jean- Marc Vallee, 2009).

Caprile has advanced that his next foray will focus on the world of puppets with the theatrical adaptation of the children’s book ‘A thread binds me to you’ and has acknowledged that his wish would be to design the costumes for a production of the zarzuela La corte del pharaoh , a “delirium full of sequins, feathers and embroidery that allows us to bring out that queen that we all carry inside,” he joked.
