Lille (France), Jul 30 (EFE) .- Lorenzo Brown, point guard for the Spanish basketball team that defeated Greece (84-77) in the Paris 2024 Olympic tournament on Tuesday, became the second Spanish player to provide ten assists in a single Olympic game, after Nacho Solozabal did so forty years ago in Los Angeles ’84.
Solozabal, also a point guard, a Barcelona star and one of the members of the team led by Antonio Díaz Miguel, who won the silver medal at those Games, gave those ten assists in the 102-83 victory over China, in a qualifying match. In a tournament in which the legendary Spanish team lost the final to the United States, which was already led, in his university days (there were no NBA players competing at that time), by Michael Jordan.
Brown, a 33-year-old naturalized point guard born in Georgia who plays for Maccabi, was one of the standouts for Sergio Scariolo’s team on Tuesday. Another of them was, once again, the Canary Islander Santi Aldama, power forward for the Grizzlies, who achieved his first ‘double-double’ in the Games, scoring 19 points and collecting 12 rebounds: just one less than he had captured in his seven previous games as an Olympian.
