The expected successor to the action RPG Lords of the Fallen, bearing the exact same name, is slowly approaching. Developers Hexworks recently held an event where journalists could try out the game, with a report from the magazine Wccftechwhich, as always, focused on the technical side.
The authors highly praise Unreal Engine 5, which they used for development. Whether it is the Lumen system, which takes care of lighting, Nanite, thanks to which the game can have a much higher quality of details without a major loss of performance, or Chaos technology, which is in charge of physics. All these features made development easier and at the same time the overall visuals were much better. But it wasn’t free, and other aspects took it away.
Although the creators recently revealed that the game will run on consoles at 60 FPS, they have not yet provided it at what price. Wccftech reported that the game will offer two modes: Quality aims at upscaled 1440p at 30 FPS, Performance mode then at upscaled Full HD (1080p) at 60 FPS. Unfortunately, we did not find out what the internal resolution from which the image is to be upscaled will be. At the same time, we don’t even know the technology used, but it can be assumed that it will be AMD’s FSR 2.
At the same time, it is not entirely clear if the aforementioned modes also apply to the Series S. The developers previously announced that the game would also run at 60 FPS on this console, but if it was also aiming for the same resolution, it would have to have really cut down details, or of course even more aggressive upscaling.
What do you think about the presented modes, is such a resolution enough for you if it is a price for the otherwise significantly better quality of details or lighting?
Lords of the Fallen launches on October 13th for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
