Still alive despite its great age, the MMO Lord of the Rings Online recently unveiled its roadmap for 2020 and 2021 with a new extension in sight.
Present at PAX East, the Standing Stone Games studio held a small presentation of what awaited players in the coming months and even years. Indeed, we now know what to expect for the next two years, and fans of the Dwarfs will be delighted.
Dwarfs and orcas
In the near future, however, the marriage between Arwen and Aragorn which will be at the heart of the great story of Middle-earth, in accordance with the overall lore of the franchise. Players will be invited to discover a Minas Tirith in the colors of this event. But in the longer term, in the summer of 2021, the studio plans to release a new extension, whose action will take place in Gundabad. In these places, the occasion will be to discover more about the ancestral war between the dwarfs and the orcas.
Standing Stone Games therefore plans two updates by then, which will allow players to appropriate the story, and arrive at the events that will be told in this expansion. Ultimately, game producer Rob Ciccolini says that everything we know about Middle-earth (areas, stories, battles …) can be explored by fans.
Make the game more accessible
The other objective of the studio will be to make endgame content more accessible to those who are not part of a brotherhood. While it will always take a good level of equipment to access certain events, others will be used for the war effort, and can therefore be carried out by everyone.
Pending the letter from the producer who will draw up a real calendar, the announcement of a new extension and updates are things important enough to reassure the MMO community. let’s remember that Lord of the Rings Online is distributed free-to-play, but it nevertheless requires a subscription (or the purchase of an ingame currency) to continue to progress in history and extensions.
