“Lord and Miller’s Spider-Verse: Inside Look at Producers, Directors, and Screenwriters Behind the Franchise”

With the release of Spider-Man : Across the Spider-Versethe drafting of Hollywood Reporter became interested in the duo of producers, directors and screenwriters Phil Lord et Chris Miller, the origin of this small animated franchise. The website publishes a very detailed (and quite fascinating) profile of these two creators, often associated with the productions Sony Pictures – Lord et Miller evoke their common course since the beginning, their relationship to the studio and to Amy Pascal in particular, and the topicality of the license Spider-Verse On all fronts.

The third film continues, the series are put on hold

Faced with the state of siege of the writers’ strike, the duo announces the hiatus of the writing sessions for the first two series Spider-Man in real pictures. For several months/years, Lord et Miller were actually mandated by Sony Pictures to develop different intellectual properties around the license – with secondary characters, insofar as Peter Parker remains a prerogative Marvel Studios immediately. Specifically, the first announcements focused on two live-action series, Silk : Spider Society et Spider-Man Noiras part of a partnership with the platform Prime Video (which will take care of the exclusive distribution of these two adaptations of the spider catalog).

The Hollywood Reporter explains that the team of screenwriters formed by Lord et Miller will not return to work for the duration of the strike. And better still, that the two creators will also participate in the demonstrations (after having taken a few holidays, visibly exhausted from the workload of these last years – the site specifies in passing that Chris Miller, married with two children, hasn’t had much time for his family lately). Openly committed to the threat of artificial intelligence and the mechanization of artistic work, the two men are even pushing for the mobilization of Directors Guild of America, the directors’ union, insofar as the threat applies fairly to this other profession according to them. Re Spider-Verseand the plans for the third part of the saga of Miles Morales animated (Spider-Man : Beyond the Spider-Verse), development continues in the image-making and post-production workshops – as the Writers Guild of America does not cover these particular industrial sectors. This final part remains the priority of the duo in the immediate future, and should not suffer from any delays despite the tense situation between the studios and the artists in a Hollywood in full arm wrestling.

Spider-Man : Across the Spider-Verse is expected for May 29, 2023 in French cinemas.
