López Obrador confirms that the US and Canada will invest 40 billion dollars in Mexico

The President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, reported this Saturday, July 16, that a “historic investment” of 40 billion dollars will arrive in Mexico from the United States and Canada.

“Mexico is considered a country of opportunities, we are receiving foreign investment like never before, it is historic what foreign investment is coming to our country,” he said.

During the inauguration of the Nestlé coffee plant that was opened in the port of Veracruz, the federal president explained that said investment will be destined for the south-southeast of the country.

“Now in the United States we are talking about obtaining defined projects… a US and Canadian investment of 40 billion dollars, most of that investment is for the south-southeast of the country,” he added.

In addition, he recognized that Mexico and the world are going through a global crisis, which has been accelerated by the war in Ukraine. For this reason, he pointed out that the Russian invasion has unleashed a world economic crisis “which translated into inflation that affects all countries.”

He also highlighted that Mexico has been one of the countries whose currency has not depreciated. “We have not had a problem of depreciation of our currency, today it appears in the New York Times that Mexico is the country with the least depreciation of its currency,” he said.

He added that investments will continue in Veracruz, since an agreement has just been signed to extract gas in Lerdo de Tejada, “it is an investment of 1.5 billion dollars, we are going to have gas and the gas factory is going to be expanded. fertilizers in Coatzacoalcos”.
