López Obrador assured that Mexico “reversed the decline” in his latest government report – Diario La Página – 2024-09-03 05:56:22

Mexico is living “an authentic democracy” and has “reversed the decline” of the “neoliberal” period of the previous three decades were part of the messages of the speech that Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador gave this Sunday, September 1, at the penultimate mass event of the president, who will hand over the presidential sash to Claudia Sheinbaum on October 1.

His sixth Government report, the latest assessment of the general state of the public administration, was the longest of the six-year term (2018-2024), as he had warned.

In the Zócalo of Mexico City, before hundreds of thousands of supporters, his speech began with: “Now, fortunately, we are living in an authentic democracy, building a new, exalted, fraternal homeland.”

And he said:

Today I present to you and to the people and the nation my last Government Report, and I do so more convinced than ever that the best of Mexico is its people, heir to civilizations that flourished long before the arrival of the European invaders.

The president said that, thanks to the values inherited by indigenous civilizations, he was able to “relatively quickly lay the foundations to begin a new stage, which is already known and identified as the Fourth Transformation of public life in Mexico.”

Arguing that Mexicans are heirs to “a great past and an exceptional and profound history,” he explained why he was able to reverse “the decline that occurred with neoliberal politics.”

In addition, the Mexican ruler mentioned historical heroes such as Miguel Hidalgo, José María Morelos, Benito Juárez, Francisco I. Madero and Lázaro Cárdenas.

With his ideals, he stressed, he presented 20 reforms to the Constitution on February 5 to “restore the revolutionary sense to the Magna Carta” and counteract 36 years of the “disastrous neoliberal period,” in which there were laws for “the plundering and delivery of the nation’s assets.”

He also said:

With this ideology, we began our government almost six years ago. The first thing we did was to reform the Constitution, as far as possible, and promote laws to stop the anti-popular, subservient and corrupt policy that had been imposed and legalized by the predominance of an oligarchic power.
