López-Gatell: Vaccinating a minor takes away the opportunity of a person with greater risk

Mexico City.- The Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell spoke about what it represents that a vaccine against covid initially thought for a sector of the elderly population and at risk, is used for a minor.

In the morning conference from the National Palace, the official said that when a family protects itself so that a minor receives the vaccine, it is taken away from a person who has a higher risk.

“Everyone -and how good- would like to be the vaccinated person now, but we must not lose sight of the fact that for each dose that, for example, by judicial action, by these amparo sentences, is diverted towards a child or a girl whose risk is considerably lower, a person who is at higher risk is being deprived of the opportunity.

Given this, he pointed out that “Precisely for this reason, public health thinks about populations, because it thinks about equity.”

Hugo López-Gatell said in the morning conference that the federal government would value vaccinating minors in the month of October and that vaccination from 12 to 15 years is in the National Vaccination Plan but that for now it is being considered only to the highest risk groups.

On August 25, the Ministry of Health reported that two minors in Nuevo León took shelter to receive their respective dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

While on August 21, a 13-year-old teenager named Ingrid, a resident of Mexicali, Baja California, was vaccinated against the virus, after on August 16, her parents filed an amparo before the First District Court with headquarters in Baja California for her daughter to receive the biological.
