López-Gatell gives six recommendations to young people for COVID-19 – Noticieros Televisa

The Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo Lopez-Gatell, gave this Tuesday, July 20, 2021, six recommendations to young people given the increase in cases of COVID-19 in that sector of the population.

We recommend you: Mexico reports 5,307 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours

He explained, during the press conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, that the epidemic has displaced young people and insisted on the need to receive the vaccine against COVID-19.

The six recommendations are:

  • Consider symptoms, such as fever, cough, headache, sore throat, sudden fatigue, that started suddenly, or digestive symptoms such as diarrhea or vomiting.
“COVID-19 can give these symptoms and it is one of the diseases that at this time most frequently explains this set of symptoms,” said López-Gatell
  • Do not do the box test, which takes a blood sample through a test strip. López Gatell explained that this is an antibody test, which can be negative. The correct test, he said, is the one that takes the respiratory specimen, that is, respiratory secretions.
  • Go to your doctor and do not self-medicate. The official said inappropriate use of antibiotics can prolong the time to receive proper care and lead to complications of the disease.
  • If you test positive, you should monitor yourself with the advice of a health professional. You should check the oxygen saturation and if it is below 93% it can be a red flag.
  • Watch for shortness of breath; if so, it is an emergency and you have to go to the hospital.
  • Get vaccinated as primary prevention.
“The vaccine is also useful for you and your family,” López-Gatell said.

At the beginning of his participation in the press conference, the Undersecretary of Health addressed the young people and asked them to be aware of the risks and to know what the situation they face.

“Take into account that all of you who are young people and young women, you too can be affected by the pandemic in Mexico and the world,” she said.

He explained that most of the people who are hospitalized for COVID-19 at the moment are under 52 years of age and the vast majority were not vaccinated.
