Ignacio López del Hierro, by videoconference and putting on the mask only for the moment of his statement, as the leaders of the PP, which affects the principle of immediacy according to the accusations, has followed the path that his wife, María Dolores de Cospedal, who in his appearance before the parliamentary commission that investigated the illegal financing of the PP, said that “López H and López Hierro”, annotations of Bárcenas’ papers that they made reference to a supposed donor to box b of the PP, it was not her husband. Cospedal said: “López H is not my husband,” and neither did he identify his spouse with the entry “López Hierro” because people with that last name and related to the Popular Party, “there are many,” he said.
“I am neither of those two people listed there.”
In his appearance before the court, Ignacio López del Hierro has not recognized himself in the annotations López H and López Hierro, which appear in Bárcenas’ papers as the identity of a donor of 114,000 euros to box b of the PP. “I am not one of those two people who appear there,” said the businessman, adding that “López H can be López Hernández as well.”
After Cospedal’s husband, the lawyer has testified Santiago Lago Bornstein, who has admitted that together with Bárcenas, he accompanied a businessman “from the Vivendi group” to the treasurer’s office Álvaro Lapuerta, thinks he remembers that in 1997, to make a cash donation of 60,000 euros. The Anticorruption prosecutor has asked if that meeting to make the donation took place in the presence of some other PP worker, apart from Bárcenas and Lapuerta, and Santiago Lago has responded with a negative. The prosecutor intends to demonstrate the illicit nature of these donations. It was money that was collected and administered exclusively by Bárcenas and Lapuerta, the notaries of the handwritten accounting, and it was not available to other economic or financial departments of the PP for their control, due to its opaque nature.
