Magdeburg l A 36- and a 25-year-old Hungarian, living in Berlin, have to answer before the 1st major criminal chamber at the Magdeburg district court because, according to the indictment in Aschersleben (Salzlandkreis), they were members of a gang of an 83-year-old woman for 40,000 euros have cheated. It was the so-called grandchildren’s trick, according to senior prosecutor Bernhard Tangermann.
On July 2nd of this year around 10 am, a previously unknown accomplice is said to have called the elderly woman and pretended to be the grandson’s wife “Tanja”. The grandson had an accident and urgently needs money. According to the indictment, “Tanja” then handed the phone over to an accomplice. He introduced himself as a lawyer and put the pensioner under pressure by confirming the accident and the urgent need for money.
The pensioner said that she had 90,000 euros in the house. It was then agreed that a courier would collect the sum. After dark “Tanja” reported again and announced that the messenger was now there. Thereupon the defendant Patrick L. appeared. The elderly woman showed the 25-year-old a walled-in safe behind the bathtub with the accompanying key. After he could not open the safe, he called Kriztian K. to help.
They used a crowbar to get the safe out of the wall. They were watched by two witnesses while they were being transported to the car on a hand truck. You alert the police. The accused were found on the run on the A14. In the unopened safe there were 40,000 euros.
Lawyer Jan Stübing basically repeated the confession of his client Patrick L., which he had already made at the Aschersleben district court. Lawyer Jan Nißle also spoke out on behalf of his client. Patrick L. admitted to having cheated the Aschersleberin out of her money. The attorney confirmed the charge from the indictment. As a gang member, he wanted to make “a lot of money quickly”. They specialize specifically in older people.
Several witnesses will be heard during the first day of the trial.
