At 01.02, the police received a report from a security guard who believed that the man had stolen from the boats, but it turned out that the person in question loosened moorings on boats in the center of Bergen.
– He had made an effort, so to speak. It was a bit of a job, says operations manager in the West Police District Knut Dahl-Mickelsen to TV 2.
In one of the boats there were three sleeping people and a dog, and the boat drifted beyond the wave without them being aware inside what was happening. One who was in a neighboring boat woke up to the noise – he got on board the boat and woke the sleepers astray.
– They did not understand anything when they woke up, but they luckily got ashore, says Dahl-Mickelsen, and adds:
– Fortunately, it is not often that this happens.
The perpetrator was arrested after the night’s second phone call to the police. No injuries have been reported in the case, and visitors to Strandkaien can continue to sleep safely.
