But why is this type of beetle gold/silver? According to researchers at the University of Exeter in the UK, this happens because these insects have a rare optical signature, which causes their structure to uniquely change the way light is reflected from them. In addition to the high reflectivity of the exoskeleton, the beetle has a property of light called polarization, which gives it its metallic tone.
