Tesla’s Cybertruck is not yet officially on the market. Nonetheless, the electric boom rolled through New York City a few weeks ago and turned the city into a futuristic fantasy backdrop.

Luminous billboards, dark skyscrapers and crowded streets – and in the middle of it all, the striking pick-up from US electric car maker Tesla. What sounds more like a scene from a wacky sci-fi film is reality for CEO Elon Musk.

When the entrepreneur hosted the comedy show Saturday Night Live a few weeks ago, his cybertruck was also spotted in the “Big Apple”. This is reported by Twitter users Eric Rihlmann, who published a whole series of photos on the social platform:

Parallels to the fantasy classic Blade Runner are intentional. When Musk presented the new electric pick-up in November 2019, the Tesla boss turned out to be a big fan. The date was just one of the many references to the cult film, EFAHRER.com reported.

As a matter of course, the battery-operated colossus now rolled through Times Square. Twitter user Albert C. Lee even captured the surreal spectacle in moving images:

It is not known whether Elon Musk was behind the wheel himself. Anyway, the community was happy. “It looks like a spaceship. I think it’s great, ”comments Mona. “Elon brings us the future that sci-fi promised us,” tweeted fargln.

The Cybertruck should finally come onto the market in autumn of this year. The starting price for the version with rear-wheel drive and a battery capacity of 100 kWh is 36,000 euros.
