Looking for an Artist from Latvia to Join Skopje’s Summer School in 2023, North Macedonia!

We are looking for an artist from Latvia to participate in the Summer School 2023 in Skopje, North Macedonia!

In 2023, from June 4 to 9, the Center for New Initiatives in the Field of Art and Culture Locomotive (North Macedonia) organizes an international summer school in the capital of North Macedonia, Skopje, for ten performing arts professionals from Portugal, England, Slovenia, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Croatia, Germany, North Macedonia and Latvia. The goal of the summer school is to create a discussion about the effects of climate change, to deepen and diversify the coverage of these topics in their practices, as well as to strengthen sustainable mutual relations.

The main theme of Summer School 2023 will be public space, more specifically – existing and planned “empty spaces” in the city. Over the course of six days, the participants of the Summer School will explore those places in the city where the so-called “empty spaces” remain and those that are used and transformed for private purposes. As the organizers explain: “We will map, discuss and invite artists to critically evaluate these spaces, the existing situation and the environment, which can include physical, poetic and socio-political material”. Together with the artists, the historical and political context of the city of Skopje, as well as its “empty spaces” and urban ecology, will be explored by local architects and environmentalists.

We invite performing arts professionals living in Latvia to apply for the summer school – theater directors, actors, playwrights, dancers, choreographers and any artist interested in such topics as ecofeminism, generosity, lack of growth (degrowth), communication and tenderness, and would like to comment on this situation specific to North Macedonia.

The summer school will take place in the capital of North Macedonia, Skopje, from June 4 to 9, in English; selected participants of the Summer School will receive compensation in the amount of 533.00 euros (including taxes), as well as paid travel and accommodation expenses.

To apply for the Summer School, you must fill out the form by April 12 questionnaire. The result will be notified to the participant individually by April 14. One participant from Latvia will be admitted to the summer school.

NB: Citizens of EU member states do NOT need a visa to enter the Republic of North Macedonia and are entitled to enter with an ID card or passport valid for at least 6 months prior to entry.
