Things are getting tighter for the Augsburg Panthers
36 points are still up for grabs and the Augsburg Panthers are 15 points away from the saving bank. At the latest since the 0:5 home debacle in the derby against Ingolstadt, the hope that something could change significantly again is dwindling.
It was once again a desolate performance by the Augsburg team, by far not the first this season. Already after 11 minutes Ingolstadt was in the lead with three goals, the only good news from the point of view of the hosts was that it wasn’t even higher. With this mortgage in the back, however, not much progress was made from then on, so that the defeat was almost certain shortly after the start of the game. So it worked out for Augsburg in the eighth home game in a row not to score three times and to reduce the seemingly uncatchable distance to the Eisbären Berlin.
The Panthers will have a new chance to do this in the upcoming home game (Friday, February 3, 7:30 p.m.) when Bietigheim, the only DEL team with weaker points, is a guest at the Curt Frenzel Stadium. The Steelers have 31 points from 45 games and are thus already the first relegated team. If Augsburg manages to win convincingly, this should give impetus for what is probably the last halfway real chance to move something in the relegation battle. Because on Sunday the six-point game away in Berlin (February 5th, 2 p.m.) is on the agenda after some things should be clearer. If the Panthers kidnap three points there, things could get exciting again with regard to the last home game of the season, which also takes place against the Eisbären Berlin. If, on the other hand, it is the next defeat, the straws in the fight to stay up in the league become increasingly rare.
