Last week, around World Alzheimer’s Day on September 21, the entire department focused on dementia and its impact on our society. Special activities were organized in several towns, with the aim of raising awareness and providing support to people with dementia and their informal carers.
Delft:
For example, last Friday, September 20, the DementEvent 2024 was held in Delft. The theater show “De Dementie van Jet en Harrie” gave an insight into life with dementia and was very beautiful and inspiring, with a good active edge. After the concert, everyone was welcome at the information market. Local organizations and experts in the field of dementia care were on hand to share information, answer questions and teach attendees more about support options in the region.
Pijnacker-Nootdorp:
A wonderful drama performance was also held in Pijnacker-Nootdorp which gave us an insight into life with dementia. The presentation offered both emotion and recognition to those present, followed by an informational period in which informal carers and professionals shared experiences and received practical tips for support in their daily lives.
Midden-Delfland:
The activities in Midden-Delfland were completely dedicated to music. In Schipluiden people could listen and dance with Alie’s tearful choir, in Den Hoorn they could enjoy and sing along with the singing choir and in Maasland visitors could themselves be transported on go with the Yiddish party and dance music.
West Side:
In the Westland, the impact of dementia was considered at various locations. As well as a walking football session, a FIT & Vital walk and a presentation of ‘Don’t forget your feelings’, there was an open evening at Ontmoetingscentrum Zorgtuinderij Nieuw Zuiderveld and informal carers could take part in exercise groups psychomotor at Ontmoetingscentrum Kornalijn and Zorgtuinderij .
World Alzheimer’s Day has inspired, connected and raised awareness of the importance of dementia care in various ways. We thank everyone for their participation and involvement and we hope to organize such a valuable day again next year!
