DEVENTER – Last Saturday there was a ‘Vive la Vie day’ at the Knowledge Center Oncology (KCO), a pampering day for men and women who have been diagnosed with cancer, are undergoing treatment or have recently been treated. Johan Schintz from Schalkhaar, member of the Supervisory Board of KCO, is proud of the many volunteers who organized the event.
“As volunteers, we are somehow connected by this nasty and impactful disease,” says Schintz. “The Center has expertise and has been providing assistance in many areas, for example psychosocial, for more than 15 years. Due to the success of previous pampering days, the center for cancer care has decided to organize such an event again this year, after an interruption due to corona.”
The pampering day was held in the current location of the RCO on the Koningin Wilhelminalaan in Deventer. “After many wanderings, we are always in consultation with the municipality of Deventer to get permanent accommodation. An absolute necessity to be able to continue the continuity of the treatments,” Schintz believes. “This current location is also of a very temporary nature.”
Numerous activities took place on Saturday, such as massages, beauty treatments, hair care, healing, yoga, information about physiotherapy, creative workshops, singing and music and various relaxation exercises. “And of course the necessary refreshments, including a delicious lunch,” says Schintz. “This group of people with cancer was offered a relaxed and hopefully unforgettable day.”
In addition to the volunteers, the pampering day could also be made possible by the many sponsors, who have generously contributed in their own way to make the often not easy life of people with cancer, at least for one day, a little easier. “From the wonderful reactions of visitors, it turned out that this requirement has been met for more than 100%”, Johan Schintz noted. “A day that will be looked back on with pleasure!”
