Extinction Rebellion and Code Rood joined forces to hold a protest action at Shell. However, this went differently than they had expected. They hoped to be able to disrupt the state of affairs at Shell and thus make a powerful statement again. It went a bit differently than hoped, the police did not really feel like this “playful” – read: illegal – action. Result? Police 1 – Rebels 0.
Earlier today, @NLRebellion and Code Red paid a visit to the Shell worldwide HQ in the Hague, to disrupt their dirty business as usual by blocking the main entrance.

Within the international green circles of Extinction Rebellion, murder and fire are being shouted. This is of course another example of “state violence”, while the Code Red and XR should have done a little better homework. This violation of the law falls under housebreak, and well that is not allowed.
The police did not really want to keep up their minds and punished this illegal action relentlessly! We now see more and more often that the police – also in Belgium – react a lot harder to these illegal actions. Previously it was more or less tolerated, but the limit seems to have been reached for a while now. Demonstrate and protest? That is certainly allowed, provided that a permit.
The police just as well showed that we are in service. You should not give too much room to troublemakers and attention grabbers!
Statement by one of our Rebels during our joined action with @shellmustfall . “We need to act now. We have tried with marches, with lobbying, we signed petitions and nobody has listened ”

XR seems to be moving from civil obedience to deliberately breaking the law. The goal justifies the means, the question is whether this tactic can provide much support from society.
Four activists have been detained for 24 hours for the campaign at the Shell headquarters yesterday.
