Al-Marsad newspaper: A report has revealed some simple steps that can be taken to save a person with a heart attack, as about 70% to 90% of people who have a heart attack die in the US before they reach the hospital, because they are not adequately supported.
According to CNN, the report explained the steps as follows:
1/ Call an ambulance
If you see someone with symptoms of cardiac arrest, call 911 immediately. You want to get professional help as soon as possible. When the heart can no longer pump blood to the brain and lungs, a person can develop brain damage or die within minutes.
And if someone else is around, split the tasks. One person has to call an ambulance, while another person looks for an automated external defibrillator.
These lightweight devices can help bring a person’s heart back into a regular rhythm. They are often found in public places such as airports, offices and schools.
2/ Start CPR
After using the machine, or if you can’t get one, start chest compressions.
With your hands placed in the center of the person’s chest, press firmly at a rate of 100-120 beats per minute.
“You literally act like the outside heart,” said Dr. Comilla Sasson, emergency physician and vice president for science and innovation for emergency cardiovascular care at the American Heart Association.
