LOOK: Hermitages in the Beskydy Mountains are decorated with sand sculptures to fight the bark beetle

The artists created several sculptures from a total of 90 tons of sand and thus supported the charity project Pískoles – For a forest without bark beetles. Dita Korčák Hrtusová, the media representative of the organizer of the Happy Tree, zs and Pustevny sro project, told Deník that the project was created in the spirit of the fight against bark beetles and the rescue of Beskydy forests. The organizers want to educate visitors to Pusteven on this issue in an entertaining way. They will contribute with voluntary admission fees, which after the event are donated by the organizers to plant a new forest in the affected area. Lesy ČR is also cooperating on the project, and their workers will plant new trees.

“Five sculptors work on the sculptures, who have three assistants and created from Monday to Friday,” said Dita Korčák Hrtusová. People can come and see the statues throughout the summer holidays – they will be seen daily from eight in the morning to six in the evening around the cross-country stadium, on the right side behind Zaryš towards the Valaška trail.

The creation of sculptures has a tradition in Pustevny, in winter people liked traditional ice sculptures, in May the organizers of the Wooden Pustevny organize, where carvers from all over the country meet. “Preparing sculptures is not easy at all. Although sand may seem like a suitable variant for construction, it does not even compete with ice in its complexity, “added Dita Korčák Hrtusová.

Visitors can get to Pustevny either by cable car from Ráztoka, or by bus or car from Prostřední Bečva. There is a parking lot in Pustevny. The Pískoles project is supported by the Moravian-Silesian and Zlín regions. Up-to-date information can be found on the Pusteven website.
