Can you remember what Le Marvillois is?
“When I took over in 2010, he was a delicatessen specialist in sausages. In 2016, we decided to build a sales store in Montmédy, still in the same sector, because the Pays-Haut and the North of the Meuse are breeding grounds. We then brought together two cattle farmers, a sheep farmer and a pig farmer, in conjunction with the Virton slaughterhouse, to have as little distance as possible between the different sites. This therefore makes it possible to reduce the carbon footprint, but also allows the breeder to accompany his animal until its end of life. The transformation workshop is also very close. »
Why this takeover in June 2021?
“I became the director of the new agri-food sector of EMC2, which wishes to develop the Marvillois model almost everywhere in Champagne-Ardenne and Lorraine. The cooperative is very interested in short circuits, the proximity of farms, the consumption of local meats, and what is in the Egalim law (law for the balance of commercial relations in the agricultural and food sector and healthy food, sustainable and accessible to all, voted at the end of 2018 Editor’s note): fair remuneration for producers, products without preservatives, without dyes, supplying hospital and high school canteens, etc. In summary, EMC2 wants to bring the pitchfork and the fork together to give a good image of agriculture and to reconcile the public with the farmers. The latter are able to be careful about what they grow or how they raise. It may not be organic, it’s still conventional. But the practices are improving more and more. And it’s no longer a price issue. »
