Camila Cabello (25), who broke through with the girl group Fifth Harmony that was created at the American X Factor in 2012, is praised by Paris Hilton, among others, for being open about body pressure on social media.
Unrealistic image of the female body
In a post on Instagram, Cabello writes that she is annoyed that there are always paparazzi present at a beach club she usually visits in Miami to enjoy and relax.
– Every time I check in, there are paparazzi there who have taken pictures of me in a bikini. Every time I have felt vulnerable or unprepared, I have worn bikinis that are too small, and not thought about what I looked like, but then seen pictures and comments online, which have made me sad, she writes in the post .
Furthermore, she writes that the times it has affected her, she has reminded herself that the negative thoughts are not really her own, but that they are influenced by image and the ideas our culture has around body and appearance.
– A culture that has become so used to the image of what a “healthy” female body looks like, which is not the reality for many women. Photoshop, strict diet, overtraining and angles that make our body look different than it really is, the artist writes.
Tightened the muscles so much that it hurt
In the post, she goes on to say that she tends to listen to podcasts about healthy eating, and that she follows women on social media who pay tribute to their cellulite, stretch marks, stomach and weight loss.
– Today I got a new and very cute bikini, put on my lip gloss, failed to eat too much before I went swimming, because I knew I was going to be photographed, Cabello writes.
– I tightened the muscles so much that it hurt. I did not breathe, and hardly smiled. I was so proven where the paparazzi were all the time that I could not relax, she writes further.
The artist says that she tried to pretend they were not there, but that it was impossible.
