A 40-year-old man from Longford was charged with theft from two different supermarkets in the area. Jaroslav Voitiukevic stole a bottle of wine from Aldi on Athlone Road and alcohol from SuperValu in Townspark on 12th January 2023. He appeared before Judge Bernadette Owens at Longford District Court, where his defense solicitor, Frank Gearty, stated that his actions were inexplicable, but both establishments had been compensated with €50. Although Voitiukevic pleaded guilty and presented himself soberly in court, Gearty requested the judge not to impose a custodial sentence. Judge Owens agreed, but warned Voitiukevic that he would face a more severe punishment if he committed any further offenses. The man was fined €200 and given a grace period of five months to pay.
