Before starting one of the last bridges of 2022, the nation’s Ministry of Transportation made a series of recommendations to ensure a safe journey from departure to return home. In this way, they emphasized the use of seat belts, both in private vehicles and long-distance buses, and zero alcohol behind the wheel.
According to investigations conducted by the Transportation Safety Board (JTS), in accidents involving double-decker buses, it was verified that failure to use seat belts is a risk factor that contributed to aggravating the consequences in terms of deaths and seriously wound. From the portfolio led by Alexis Guerrera, they recalled that although awareness of its use in private vehicles is “always improving”, its use in long-distance buses “is still very low”.
In this context, they stressed that road accidents are the first cause of death among young people aged between 15 and 35, and drink driving is one of the most important determinants: it is present in at least one out of four road accidents with fatalities.
The Ministry of National Transport has ensured that guaranteeing road safety is the main axis of its public policies. To this end, he confirmed that checks will be carried out on routes throughout the country through the National Road Safety Agency (ANSV) and the National Transport Regulation Commission (CNRT), inspecting private vehicles and goods.
Likewise, they informed that the National Identity Document (DNI), National Driving Licence, Green or Blue ID Card, Proof of Current Insurance, Compulsory Technical Inspection (RTO) or Technical Verification of the vehicle (VTV) updated and The legible, standardized and genuine patents constitute the mandatory documentation necessary for circulation.
Finally, fundamental recommendations were shared to embark on a journey as safely as possible:
– On a motorcycle, always wear a helmet.
– Respect the maximum speeds.
– Do not use mobile phones while driving.
– Travel with enough rest to always be attentive to the road.
– Make stops of about 15 minutes every two hours of travel.
– Do not drive more than nine hours a day.
– All vehicle occupants must travel with the seat belt correctly fastened.
– Children under ten years of age must always travel in the rear and with the appropriate child restraint system (CRS) according to weight and size.
– Low beam always on.
– Always announce maneuvers earlier with a wink.
– Pets must always travel behind and with the appropriate restraint harness.
