London –
Mikel Arteta revealed that he would be absent for a long time Jurrien Timber so a heavy blow to Arsenal. Timber is likely to be out until the end of the season due to an ACL injury.
Timber had to be absent for a long time due to an ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) injury in his right knee. Timber experienced this injury in his debut match in the Premier League when Arsenal won 2-1 over Nottingham Forest at the Emirates Stadium, Saturday (12/8/2023) evening WIB.
Timber suddenly sat on the court groaning in pain clutching his leg at 50 minutes. Timber had previously collided with Nottingham winger Brennan Johson at the end of the first half but continued the fight. He was later replaced by Takehiro Tomiyasu.
The Dutch left-back has the potential to be absent for up to one season. This happened because Timber had to go up to the operating table to recover from the injury.
This situation is certainly a very big loss for Arsenal. Considering that Timber was just brought in by Arsenal this summer from Ajax Amsterdam. This 22-year-old player was redeemed with a transfer value of 40 million euros.
He had only played two official matches for Arsenal before a long injury. He previously led the Gunners to win the Community Shield title after beating Man City on penalties.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta admits that Timber’s long absence will be a tough blow to his team. Timber should be a mainstay in Arsenal’s back line this season. But injuries dashed these hopes.
“It’s a massive blow, especially for him who has just joined the club with an injury which he has had is a massive disappointment. Obviously for the team it’s a massive blow because we signed him with clear intentions and what he brings to the team is evident, and he won’t be in this season for us. We have to adapt, unfortunately these things happen, and we have to continue with the season,” Arteta was quoted as saying on Arsenal’s website.
