Long-term complaints after corona in 1 in 8 Dutch people

GRONINGEN – 1 in 8 Dutch people have long-term complaints after corona. This is apparent from research by the UMCG in Groningen.

A team led by Prof. Dr. Judith Rosmalen has analyzed the health data of nearly 13,000 Dutch people. It turned out that the complaints persist in many corona patients. These include chest pain, loss of smell and taste, tightness of the chest, fatigue and muscle aches.

The researchers now want to look at the extent to which these people, called Lung COVID patients, can still function, especially in their work. Judith Rosmalen: ,,We also ask what care people have received and how they experience it. With all the data, care pathways are developed to provide patients with the right care and to calculate the social costs, both through medical costs and through productivity loss.”

Data from Lifelines was used for the study. For 15 years now, a wide range of health data has been collected from a large group of Dutch people through this program. Since the end of March 2020, data about corona has also been collected.
