Long run-up, two circuits and a lot of spectators: this …

With a long run-up from Antwerp to Leuven and not one but two local circuits, it will also be important for the supporters to keep a cool head on Sunday. Good preparation is therefore crucial. We create clarity for those who want to experience the World Cup on the course.

Thibaut Renson

  • What time do I have to leave? As early as possible. It’s like being in flight as a teammate of the favourite: the earlier you leave, the more likely you are to be comfortable and able to keep your legs still for the rest of the day.

  • Where and when do the riders start? On the Grote Markt in Antwerp at 10.25 am.

  • Where and when will the riders arrive? On the slightly sloping Geledaaksevest in Leuven around 5 pm.

  • Can I stand anywhere along the course? Everywhere, outside on the Sint-Antoniusberg. It is not a goat path, but the last slope less than 2 km from the finish is so narrow that there is simply no place for fans and riders.

  • Where can I see the riders? The riders will first ride from Antwerp to Leuven and then do two local circuits several times: the ‘Leuvenlus’ in the city center (8 times) and the ‘Flandrienlus’ around Huldenberg, Overijse and Tervuren (2 times). You can see the riders pass several times on those loops.

  • When do the riders pass on the toughest slopes?Moskesstraat (Overijse, Flandrienlus): recently redeveloped, but the sand between the cobblestones has already been removed. Is climbed twice: the first time at 12.50 pm, the second time at 3.30 pm (66 km from the finish). There is a large screen to follow the rest of the match.Smeysberg (Huldenberg, Flandrienlus): noted as the most difficult slope in the Druivenstreek. It is climbed 4 times (at the start and the end of each Flandrien loop): the first time at 12.45 PM, the last time at 3.50 PM (48 km from the finish). Large screens can be found both on the steepest part of the mountain and at the very top.Wine press (Leuven loop): according to Van Aert the toughest slope of the final loop. It is climbed 8 times: the first time at 12:00 PM, the last time at 5:00 PM (5 km from the finish).

  • Do the riders pass the finish line several times? No less than 8 times: the first time at 12.10 pm, the last time around 5 pm. There is also a large screen here.

  • Where are there (still) big screens? In Antwerp on the Groenplaats (start), in Keerbergen on the Gemeenteplein (run-up), in Leuven on the Ladeuzeplein and the Middenbermpark (Leuvenlus), in Huldenberg on the Smeysberg (Flandrienlus), in Duisburg on the Kerkplein, in Overijse on the J Lipsiusplein, in the Bekestraat, the Taymanstraat, the Moskesstraat and Kamp Kwadraat.

  • What about corona? The course is freely accessible, so you do not need a Covid Safe Ticket. There is also no strict mouth mask obligation. The organization does count on supporters wearing their mouth masks in very busy places, for their own safety and that of others.

  • Can I come by car? You really better not do that. And that goes for wherever you want to look on the course. The course will be closed two hours before the riders pass and parking facilities are not nearby. So come by bike or train. Or take your bike in the car and park in one of the park-and-bike parkings.Antwerp: train station on the route, the start is a twenty minute walk.Park-and-bike parkings can be found in the A. Vermeylenlaan and the Esmoreitlaan in Linkeroever, the Legrellelaan and the Beukenlaan in Antwerp, and at the P+R Metropolis at Luchtbal.Leuvenlus: train station on the course, the finish is a fifteen minute walk.Park-and-bike parkings can be found at the Delhaizes on the Dietstesteenweg in Kessel-Lo and the Pleinstraat in Holsbeek, and in the Bokkenstraat in Bertem.Flandrienlus: from train station Groenendaal and La Hulpe: free shuttle buses to Overijse. From Wavre and Sint-Joris-Weert train stations: free shuttle buses to Huldenberg.
