Long queue for open day Metis Montessori in East: “It is a very popular school”

At the open day of the Metis Montessori Lyceum in East today, there was a long queue of parents and children who wanted to take a look at the secondary school. Due to the expected crowds, the school had time slots of one hour.

“It is very busy, this is not really inviting to take a look,” says a woman who has just arrived at the queue. Another man saw it a little rosier. “It’s very busy right now, but it’s a good school. If this is what you have to do, then you should just do it, right?”

The young students who came to watch did understand the queues outside. “Of course it is a very popular school. Many people who come from Montessori want to come here, they are used to this learning method,” said a boy who took a look today.

Room for 180

In the coming months, about 8,000 children in group 8 will have to pass on their twelve preferences for a secondary school. At the open day of the Metis, approximately 3,000 potential first graders came to watch. “The crowds were already expected,” says director Hüseyin Asma. “We are trying to solve that gradually with the time slots. Despite the crowds, it was a very pleasant open day.”

Of those 3,000, there is eventually room for 180 of them, yet the director sees it positively for all future first graders. “You may not end up with your first choice, that depends on your lottery number. But we do have several beautiful schools in the city, so it will work out in the end.
