Long lines when IKEA reopens after six weeks closing NOW

The reopening of all Dutch branches of Swedish furniture store giant IKEA caused long lines on Tuesday to enter various branches. A spokesperson for the group tells NU.nl that many people were already waiting for the opening before the opening. After the opening, the rows disappeared quickly, according to the spokesman.

The weeks-long closure, combined with the extra time for DIY and the May holiday, caused long lines at IKEA on Tuesday morning. Additional employees were deployed to manage the crowds. There are also images of crush barriers on Twitter to guide IKEA-goers in the right direction.

The crowds did not cause any problems, according to the IKEA spokesperson. “Our customers follow the rules neatly,” said the spokesperson.

The furniture store giant closed its doors on March 17 because of the spread of the corona virus. Last week, the group announced that it could reopen on Tuesday after some adjustments in the stores.

There are now numerous measures in the shops. For example, only a limited number of customers, one customer per 30 square meters, can enter and no more than two people together. Also, only one person is allowed to enter the inspiration rooms, there are plexiglass screens at the cash registers and customer service and there is a continuation of keeping 1.5 meters away.
