Three days before the solar eclipse occurs, points of sale of special viewers to observe the phenomenon, which were made by prisoners of the Mexico City Penitentiary System, have been in great demand. Long lines of people have formed waiting to purchase them at the three points of sale where they are offered.
The glasses were manufactured in the advertising packaging design, cutting and assembly workshop located in the Oriente Prison, which is made up of 50 inmates of this prison.
The design was carried out by incarcerated women from the Santa Martha Acatitla Women’s Center for Social Reintegration, who were inspired by popular Mexican art, mainly from Mexico City.
The prisoners were trained and supervised by UNAM science professor Zeus Alberto Valtierra, who is also co-founder of the science dissemination company.
