Long lines for the vaccine in full burst of Ómicron

In the environment of Isabel Zendal Nurse Hospital long lines of people who come to get the vaccine against the coronavirus, in full escalation of infections throughout Spain. Despite having an appointment, hundreds of people crowd the doors of the center, with long delays compared to the fixed hours.

Outside there is some confusion about the queues in which the population should be located. Two posters read: “Social health personnel” and “General population”. People attending by appointment should be placed in the front row, despite imprecise directions. The security guards do not stop giving instructions and indicating the distribution.

“I thought that on Friday night no one would come, that’s why I chose this time,” is heard in one of the lines. The rest respond that they have had “the same brilliant idea.” The delays in the distribution of the doses, at nine o’clock on Friday night, are reflected in the following images.

A saturation that takes place on the eve of Christmas celebrations and of the increase in cases that is being registered throughout Spain, including the Community of Madrid, before the irruption of the omicron variant of the coronavirus.

Strengthening of health services

The president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has already warned that the next few weeks will be hard due to the increase in infections. For this reason, the region announced this Friday a reinforcement of health services. Up to 28 specific covid care units to deal with the increase in cases.

Specific, The Primary Care Assistance Management has issued instructions to focus on the covid Units to most of the 1,500 professionals hired in Primary Care as reinforcements against the pandemic and that add to the work that these UACov carry out in contact tracing, monitoring of the clinical situation, confirmatory studies due to the greater use of self-diagnostic tests, as reported by the Community of Madrid in a press release sent to the media.

The fundamental activity of the 28 covid Units (which are distributed throughout the region) consists of the detection of cohabiting contacts and the referral, if they so require, to perform a Diagnostic Test for Active Infection (PDIA: antigen test or PCR). These tests are carried out fundamentally in 68 centralized points of Primary Care, facilities independent of the access to the Health Centers in order to guarantee security “, is assured from the Ministry of Health.
