Museum Night was so popular last night that there were meters long queues for some locations. 54 museums stayed open until midnight, but due to the huge influx of visitors, many visitors could only enter one or two museums. Eventually it became so full that some museums decided to close their doors early.

Everywhere in the city it was busy, but on the Museumplein it was most crowded. The line outside kept growing and people queued all evening.
“We actually wanted to go to a lot of places, but there was a line everywhere. Then we went to the music here,” say three women in the Stedelijk Museum. Fortunately, they do come in, unlike many others. Another duo outside doubts the success: “We had a big schedule, but we really don’t know yet if we’ll be in tonight.”

“It’s a shame that tickets were sold for so many people, I really wanted to go”

After Museum Night was canceled last year, this evening is extra important for one of the visitors. “I think every party you missed last year has extra value now.” But that is precisely why the disappointment seems greater.
The visitors who did manage to get in could enjoy a lot of music, shows, works of art and conviviality. There was a photo exhibition in the Van Eesteren Museum and in Oscam in Zuidoost you could have yourself portrayed. “It’s nice to be able to look at art in a more creative way on such an evening.”

A number of museums had to close earlier due to the crowds. A couple from The Hague thinks it’s a shame. “Apparently too many people were excited.” A man in line decides to go from the center to Southeast, where he hopes it will be less crowded. “It’s a shame that so many tickets are being sold, I really wanted to go.” Still, many people waiting outside remain positive: “We really are in within ten minutes, will be fine!”
