Long-lasting Mentorship: 10-Year-Old and 35-Year-Old Still Connected Through Big Brothers Big Sisters

In 1989, Isabelle André was 10 years old and Danielle Verreault was 35. Danielle was very busy with her work and she wanted to volunteer. While working with Big Brothers Big Sisters, she met Isabelle André. Their twinning has lasted since that time. “It was a natural pairing,” says Danielle Verreault. “She reminded me a lot of my godmother,” reacts Isabelle André.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters organization is present throughout Canada and Quebec. Volunteers offer mentoring to young people going through difficult times, in a community and school program, explains Véronique Lescaut, interim executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Montreal.

The organization asks its volunteers to commit for one year. “In other provinces of Canada, it is much easier to find volunteers. In Quebec, […] once we found [les bénévoles]it’s for life,” points out Véronique Lescaut.
