Hundreds of employment insurance claimants in Eastern Quebec have been without income for weeks, because the processing of their file has been delayed due to a fraud alert.
The offices of MNAs in the region are receiving a large number of calls and the situation is increasingly critical, especially since the return from the holidays.
The verification process is long for claimants and some have not been receiving benefits for months. This lack of benefits is a stressful situation for many families and many seasonal workers in Eastern Quebec.
It is also difficult for many recipients to reach Service Canada agents. It seems to lack the staff and investigators to respond to requests, lamented the Bloc Québécois deputies from Est-du-Québec.
The latter denounce these delays and the lack of sensitivity of the government in the file.
“People are going to call us to say that it’s even been months, so we’ve reached the month where people haven’t received any benefits and Service Canada is not going to tell them directly that it’s because of a case. of fraud in their file. So, it increases the concern of people who say to themselves, but why am I no longer receiving my money? Will I never receive benefits again? What happened?” said the Bloc member for Avignon-La Mitis-Matane-Matapédia, Kristina Michaud.
The Bloc Québécois proposes that the security check be done simultaneously with the granting of employment insurance benefits.
