“Long-Covid: The Rising Neurological Disease Among 600 Thousand Americans”

In the USA, patients with the so-called post-Covid or long-Covid are about 20 million. The number of these people in our country is about 600 thousand. This is what hematologist Prof. Chavdar Botev said in the program “The Day ON AIR”.

According to him, many doctors in our country do not know about this and do not undertake treatment.

“Long Covid is now accepted as a neurological disease”, explained the professor and added that the number of people who develop phobias or have the so-called is increasing. “jumping symptoms” – they get headaches, have panic attacks, are afraid to go outside. People become more aggressive or more apathetic, experience chronic fatigue, he explained.

“The most common syndrome is chronic fatigue – there are about 1 million people in the US,” said Prof. Botev and added that this is again related to damage to the nervous system.

He explained that the virus often attacks sensitive parts of the brain, leading to disorders of the thyroid gland, which is responsible for the body’s energy.

According to him, the complaints may be psychiatric or cardiac, but treatment of neurological disease should be undertaken.

He explained that soon in Bulgaria there will be a table with symptoms that describe post-Covid and so doctors will be able to distinguish this disease and prescribe the right treatment.
