The campus of the “University of York” has become a real tourist attraction. But not because of the picturesque buildings or the well-tended green spaces – no, but because of a duck! What about the Giant duck “Long Boi” on yourself?
“Long Boi”: giant duck goes viral
During a walk around the campus lake of the “University of York”, this duck catches the eye: with a size of around 70 centimeters, the poultry is hard to miss. At the university, the duck is a local attraction – but since its photo on social media platforms Reddit and Twitter went viral, “Long Boi” is also gaining international attention.
Zoe Duffin is a biology student at York University and, together with a fellow student, maintains the bizarre duck’s Instagram account. Around 30,000 people are now following the cozy life of the Internet celebrity.

Appearance on US late night show
The giant duck had a breakthrough in particular after her virtual appearance on the popular US late night show with James Cordon.
“In the last few days, a lot of people have come to us on campus to see him,” reports Zoe to the news magazine “Travelbook”. And of course the university makes use of this: fans can wear “Long Boi” on their t-shirt, mug or notebook.
Why is “Long boi” so big?
Rumors are circulating on the internet that “Long Boi” is the largest mallard in the world, but this assumption is wrong. Zoe reveals, “It’s so long because it’s a hybrid cross between an Indian runner and a mallard”. So it has an average size among its kind.
It is believed that the giant duck was released on the University of York campus a few years ago. At the beginning, “Long Boi” had difficulties integrating into the duck group and was even harassed. Today he has settled in well with the campus family and is also very trusting towards people: he even lets students and teachers feed him by hand.
