Lonely Planet names Leipzig as Germany’s top travel destination

When it comes to the best travel destinations in Germany, many think of Bavarian idyllic nature or the Baltic and North Sea. And of course to cities like Cologne, Hamburg, Munich and Berlin. In the new “Lonely Planet” book, however, Leipzig is declared to be Germany’s top travel destination.

Saxony’s largest city has long ceased to be an insider tip, but rather a young, colorful and dynamic metropolis. Leipzig has now secured first place among the top travel destinations in Germany in the new book “Ultimate Travel Destinations Germany – Lonely Planet’s Top 250 List”.

First place: Leipzig

Leipzig is cooler than the capital, according to the new “Lonely Planet book”. The green culture and trade fair city is young, exciting and multi-faceted: “The hype that some attest to the city is not at all: Leipzig is really cooler than Berlin and more popular than Munich, especially among millennials,” says the current one Travel Guide.

“Everyone wants to go to the city of the first GDR Monday demos, the home of Auerbachs Keller (Goethe and Faust, you know), the city of street art, the Wave-Gotik-Treffen and a creative scene all about cotton spinning, that is second to none, ”the authors also write about Leipzig.

Second place: Lake Constance
