Lonely passenger at Tilburg station: ‘I want to go to Arnhem’

There are no trains and buses in Brabant. It is therefore quiet at Tilburg station. Although there are Tilburg residents who still want to take the train.

It is quiet at the bus station. Only the Belgian scheduled service runs to Turnhout and there is no bus to be seen.

A Tilburger arrives with his bicycle. “I cycled carefully”, the man says when he arrives. “And I put on a helmet on purpose.”

The man wants to go to his cousin in Arnhem. But that is not going to be this morning. “I thought there would be trains, but a little less. Then I should go home again.”

There is no one on the platforms. NS employees help people who still wanted to take the train. “The problem is that the snow came in the night. As a result, switches are frozen and there are more and more malfunctions,” says an employee.

“When it snows during the day, the trains keep running the switches. But no trains run at night and that’s the problem.” The employee expects a very difficult day on the track today. The trains and employees are all not in the right location when train traffic is about to start.

That is why the Tilburger goes home carefully with his bicycle. “I’m just going to ask for the telephone number of the NS. Then I can call them to see if they are driving again.”
