New Orleans New Year’s Eve attack: lone Wolf ISIS Supporter Identified
The FBI has concluded its initial examination into the tragic New year’s Eve vehicular attack in New Orleans, identifying the perpetrator as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din jabbar. the attack, which resulted in at least 15 fatalities, has been linked to Jabbar’s self-professed support for the Islamic State group (ISIS).
FBI Deputy Assistant Director Christopher Raia addressed the media in a press conference on Friday, January 3rd, 2025, stating, “(The perpetrator) drove from Houston to New Orleans on the evening of the 31st and he uploaded several videos to social media platforms expressing his support for ISIS.”
According to Raia,Jabbar’s online postings revealed a disturbing plan. “In the video the perpetrator explains that he initially planned to harm his family and friends, but was worried that the headlines would not focus on the ’war between believers and unbelievers’,” Raia explained. This suggests a calculated attempt to garner attention for his extremist views.
Jabbar, a US Army veteran, used a rented truck to plow into the New Year’s Eve festivity crowd. The FBI currently believes he acted alone. “At this time we do not think anyone else was involved in this attack except Shamsud-Din Jabbar,” Raia confirmed.
The investigation is ongoing, but the FBI’s findings raise serious concerns about the potential for lone-wolf attacks inspired by extremist ideologies. the incident underscores the ongoing challenge of combating domestic terrorism and the need for heightened vigilance.
This attack has shaken the New Orleans community and the nation, prompting renewed discussions about security measures for large public gatherings and the effectiveness of counter-terrorism strategies. The families of the victims are understandably devastated, and the city is grappling with the aftermath of this senseless tragedy.
The FBI is urging anyone with details related to this case to come forward and contact their local authorities.
