London will regain one of its biggest landmarks for art lovers, when the National Portrait Gallery reopens its doors in June after a three-year closure for renovations, according to the German news agency.
The museum announced that, from June 22 onwards, it will display never-before-seen portraits from Paul McCartney’s early days with the Beatles, and an exhibition by British photographer Yvondi called “Life and Colours”.
New works by David Hockney will also be on display, and enthusiastic visitors have already been allowed to purchase tickets for the exhibitions.
The gallery in central London has since been closed to the public to allow for extensive renovations. The entrance foyer was redesigned, and a new education center constructed. In the process, the officials were working with young people from different London boroughs, schools and other representatives of the general public. The museum’s collection was also completely reorganized and reworked. The renovations were funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and other institutions.
