At 3 p.m. on January 7 (local time), a group of adult men and women without pants boarded a subway station in London, the capital of England. They sit in their seats with a nonchalant expression, reading newspapers, listening to music, or looking at their smartphones. The top is properly dressed, but the bottom is only in underwear and no pants.
What happens in the harsh winter? This is the ‘Take Off Your Pants and Ride the Subway’ event that is held every January around this time in London. The purpose of this event is only ‘fun’. Created by ‘Improv Everywhere’, founded by American comedian and director Charlie Todd, this mission started as a small prank involving seven men on the New York subway in January 2002, and has now been used by thousands of people in over 60 cities around the world. This has become a festival to participate in and enjoy.

The idea behind No Pants is simple. “In the middle of winter, random passengers board the subway at different stations without pants. The participants act as if they are strangers to each other. “Everyone wears winter coats, hats, scarves and gloves.” Of course, there is an organizer and you must gather at a time and location announced in advance. Afterwards, you follow your guide to several stations and only when you arrive at each subway station can you take off your pants and put them in your bag before boarding the subway. They say the point is to act as indifferently as possible after boarding. Of course, after the event is over, you can all get together to party and take pictures.

Dave Selkirk, who has organized the London event for six years, told a local media outlet: “This event has been popular with people for many years because it is just for fun. “At a time when there is so much sadness and seriousness in the world, it is a privilege to live in London and be able to take part in events like this and take a break and enjoy it,” he said.
The Take Your Pants Off Subway event was held in Shanghai, China and Hong Kong in 2013, and later Tokyo, Japan also participated, but it is said that it has never been held in Korea yet. I hope it will be held in Seoul soon.
