London Underground Strike Averted: Progress in Negotiations Leads to End of Union Action

Jan 7, 2024 at 8:51 PM Update: 7 hours ago

The London Underground would not run from Monday to Thursday because members of the RMT union were going on strike. But that is no longer possible because there is progress in negotiations with the employer about a higher wage.

According to the chairman of the RMT union, positive discussions have been held and more funding has been made available to reach an agreement. As a result, the strike is immediately ended, reports chairman Mick Lynch.

The conflict revolves around the 5 percent wage increase offered by the employer. According to metro staff, this is far too little because executives at the company receive much more pay increases.

A strike had also been announced by the RMT in October. That action was canceled at the last minute. Back then it was not about higher wages, but about jobs and working conditions.
