London: In London, the Rail, Maritime & Transport Union (RMT) called off a strike by tube train workers that had been announced from Sunday evening to Friday morning. The strike was called off ahead of the workers’ much-needed salary increase negotiations. The London Mayor’s intervention paved the way for further negotiations with the workers.
RMT members voted against a five per cent pay rise proposal late last year. Union representatives said more talks would follow. But Transport for London (TFL) described the five per cent pay rise as ‘the best they can afford’.
TFL representatives added that they would meet with representatives of all unions to resolve the current dispute and agree on the best way forward.
UK Hospitality warned that the strike could cost the hospitality sector up to £50 million.
