London Stock Exchange Rises 0.03% on Strong Performance of Packaging and Stationery Companies

London, Jan 25 (.).- The London Stock Exchange rose a modest 0.03% this Thursday, boosted above all by the performance of packaging and stationery companies.

The main London index, the -also known as ‘footsie’-, added 2.06 points to 7,529.73 integers, while the secondary one, the FTSE-250, increased by 0.27%, that is, 51.42 points , up to 19,223.10 units.

The gains on the London stock market of the investment fund Intermediate Capital Group (LON:), which increased by 8.58%, followed by the industrial equipment rental group Ashtead (LON:), with an increase of 6.83%, stood out.

At the top of the list were also two packaging and stationery companies: Smurfit Kappa (IR:) Group, which rose 4.11% on the day; and Mondi (LON:), whose value increased by 2.13%.

On the contrary, among the losers of the day were the financial advisory group St. James’s Place, which fell 4.38%; the pharmaceutical company Hikma (LON:), with a fall of 4.24%; and the industrial products distributor RS Group, which fell 2.95%.

The banking company Lloyds (LON:) also fell, dropping 1.49% on the same day in which it announced the elimination of 1,600 jobs in its branch network and its replacement with 830 new positions to serve customers for phone or video.

This Thursday’s stock market data coincides with the publication of a report by the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) in which it was pointed out that slow economic growth and high national debt will make the next British Executive deal with with the “worst fiscal challenges” since the 1950s.
