On Sunday, London police said, that she had arrested a second man on suspicion of theft and criminal damage after a Banksy work was removed from a south London street corner within hours of its appearance.
A man in his 20s, arrested on Saturday over the previous day’s incident, has been released on bail until mid-March pending further investigations, the Metropolitan Police Service added.
Banksy’s installation – a traffic stop sign topped by three aircraft resembling military drones – appeared at an intersection in the Peckham district on Friday morning.
Less than an hour after the elusive street artist confirmed it was his latest work – posting a photo of it on social media – witnesses filmed her being removed by a man with the help of another man.
Photos and videos posted on social media show one of the two running away with the sign in hand.
London police initially said they had not been made aware of the alleged crime.
But Southwark Council, which is responsible for local services including street signs, said late on Friday that wants to return the sign and has reported the incident to the police.
On Saturday evening, the Metropolitan Police said that one man had been arrested, and on Sunday the second arrest was reported.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the removal or “may have information about the incident or the location of the sign,” to call the police.
Meanwhile, in a statement on Friday, Councilor Jasmine Ali, deputy leader of Southwark Council, expressed dismay at the unauthorized removal.
“It shouldn’t have been removed and we’d like to bring it back so everyone in the community can enjoy Banksy’s brilliant work,” she said.
“We reported on the removal of the sign in the policeto help bring it back,” Ali pointed out.
