London, Aug 30 (EFE).- The United Kingdom is “deeply concerned” by the methods used by Israel in the military operation that the army of that country launched on Thursday in the West Bank, where it killed eleven Palestinians, a spokesman for the British Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday.
In a statement, a Foreign Office spokesperson said that while London recognises “Israel’s right to defend itself against security threats”, the UK is “deeply concerned” by the methods employed by the Israeli military and by the “civilian casualties and destruction of civilian infrastructure”.
“The risk of instability is serious and the need for de-escalation is urgent. We continue to call on the Israeli authorities to exercise restraint, adhere to international law and tone down measures that seek to inflame tensions,” the source said.
The UK “strongly condemns violence and provocative comments such as those made by Israel’s national security minister, Ben-Gvir, which threaten the status quo of holy sites in Jerusalem,” the statement said.
The British Government also recalls that “it is not in anyone’s interest for there to be further conflict and for instability to spread in the West Bank.” EFE
